Power absorption modelling and analysis of a multi‐axis wave energy converter

A point absorber wave energy converter (WEC) which converts into electrical with a multi-axis power-take-off (PTO) system is considered here. Previous tank trials have proved the ability of WEC to absorb power. In this study, boundary element method (BEM) based software Ansys@ AQWATM was applied model and analyze power absorption performance for wider range regular irregular waves. To verify numerical model, laboratory-scale physical manufactured tested. Results show that can more from incident compared single-axis WECs efficiency reaches up 45%. It found frequency angle significantly influence amount absorbed different motion modes PTO axes. Then simulated at 12 nearshore locations in East South China Sea. The results indicate 5 kW reach 29% most energetic site Shengshan. addition, considerable differences mean be between sea states.
